about

Song from Draginovo, near Velingrad.

This song is something of a trademark for the village of Draginovo. We learned it from a friend from that village, who now lives in the Boston area. In Draginovo, traditional textiles still form a very important part of a girl’s dowry and the extensive gifts she will give to her new family when she marries.

A girl is embroidering a colorful sock. As she sews, she speaks to the sock, asking: “Oh sock, I am embroidering you, but who will wear you?” “Why, the girls from Draginovo will wear me, of course!”
